Dr. Deck earned her MSSW and PhD from the University of Louisville, Kent School of Social Work, and completed a BS in Education at Indiana University. Her research and practice experience have focused primarily on poverty, financial empowerment, housing, and homelessness. In the classroom, she is passionate about fostering student engagement and creating service-learning opportunities. Dr. Deck is a founding board member of The Book Works, a non-profit that advocates for equitable access to education and employment for young people who are at-risk of becoming disconnected because of educational disruptions, childhood trauma, social or racial discrimination, or economic hardship. Previously, she served as Chair of the Board for the Coalition for the Homeless and the Metropolitan Housing Coalition.
