A Historic Nursing Program

Our School of Nursing has promoted human dignity, freedom and human flourishing in healthcare through nursing education since 1933, when we started our baccalaureate nursing program.

Our BSN program is the oldest in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and our MSN program is the oldest in Louisville and second oldest in the state. The RN to MSN program benefits from this rich tradition and the experience of our skilled faculty.

RN to MSN Courses

We accept up to 90 credit hours to meet nursing and general education requirements. You can transfer up to 60 credit hours for an earned associate’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university to meet general education requirements and up to 30 credit for an active nursing license. For the FNP track, you are allowed to transfer up to 6 credit hours if faculty deem that the credits earned match the course description(s) of Spalding University courses.

Clinical experience is gained in hospitals, health centers and community health agencies throughout Louisville. The program curriculum includes anatomy and physiology, microbiology and pathophysiology as well as courses such as health assessment, maternal-newborn nursing and nursing pharmacology.

A Schedule that Fits Your Life

Our master’s level courses are offered in our unique block schedule format. You’ll take one to two classes at a time and enjoy a week-long break between blocks. For the Healthcare Leadership and Nurse Educator tracks, classes start every six to eight weeks. With the Family Nurse Practitioner track, the bachelor’s level courses start every eight weeks and master’s level courses start in May each year.

With our Nurse Educator and Healthcare Leadership RN to MSN tracks, all courses are completed entirely online. For those in the FNP track, all of the bachelor’s level courses — as well as many of the master’s level — are completed online. Courses specific to the Family Nurse Practitioner program are completed on-campus.

The RN to MSN program is 60 credit hours, with an RN to MSN Bridge program that is 43 credit hours.
