Mission

A Heart for Students, a Love for the City

At Spalding University, we have an exceptional commitment to academia, but beyond that—we enrich the mind, body, and spirit of our students in our family-minded community. Here, in the heart of our thriving city, students find and form clear pathways for their futures.

Over 200 Years of
Serving the City

Founded in 1814 by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, Spalding University has a time-honored tradition of charitable service through education.

What began as the first Catholic school for women west of the Allegheny Mountains has grown into a diverse, coeducational university that remains deeply committed to its heritage of peace, inclusivity, and mission-driven impact.

Guided by Mission,
Growing in Spirituality

Serving others is a way of life at Spalding. Students are encouraged and supported in building meaningful relationships through volunteer work, community engagement, and service-learning, especially within our local community. These opportunities, along with campus ministry and spiritual development led by Sister Katie Cummings, help students take part in the University’s mission of service in everyday life.
