Behavioral Health Consultation
A Behavioral Health Consultation (BHC) is the most common first connection students make with CaPS. During the one-hour BHC, a therapist will explore what brought you to the center in a one-on-one session and share with you the resources that are available.
The BHC takes a solution-focused approach to identifying struggles, skills and strategies. Some students find that ongoing therapy helps them implement their new tools, while others feel ready to put them into practice on their own.
Psychological Assessment
CaPS offers psychological assessments in conjunction with counseling and as a standalone service. Examples of assessments include screening for:
- Attention-deficit disorders
- Learning disabilities
- Personality characteristics
If you think you may need accommodations in the classroom, please email us at caps@spalding.edu to make an appointment. The assessment process may take some time to complete. We may coordinate with Accessibility Services to provide you with the best support possible. If we don’t find you have a diagnosis, we will still be able to provide recommendations to help with whatever you need.
If you had an IEP, a 504 plan, or any other accommodations in high school, you may need a new assessment in order to continue any accommodations. The first step in this process is to visit the Office of Student Accessibility Services.
Individual Therapy
Individual therapy generally consists of 50-minute, private sessions with a therapist. Sessions may occur weekly, every other week or monthly.
Please note that there is limited availability for individual therapy during high-demand seasons. This may mean that your therapist cannot see you on a weekly basis. If you feel like you need more than what is available—or you are currently on a waitlist—please explore our group options.
Group Therapy
Group therapy sessions at CaPS facilitate connectedness, growth and shared life experiences. Group themes rotate throughout the year, so please connect with a CaPS staff member to learn about the current groups. If you have an idea for a group topic that would serve your needs and the needs of fellow students, please reach out and let us know.
Meditation Training
Are you interested in the benefits and practices of meditation but not sure where to start? We can help you get started. Email us to inquire about individual or group meditation training.
Spalding also has a meditation center in the lower level of the library. There, you will find meditation and mindfulness resources, as well as a restorative, quiet place to relax on campus.
