Spalding’s Bachelor of Arts in African American Studies program meets the needs of the times by analyzing history, promoting peace and justice in the present and working to increase the quality of life for future African Americans. Through Applied Black Studies, faculty and students collaborate in class and in the community to develop solutions for social problems.

Courses
Spalding’s Bachelor of Arts in African American Studies provides students with a holistic educational experience that incorporates the classroom and the community.
Courses include African American Religion, Policing the Black Experience and Race and Crimes & Restorative Justice. Internships embed students in grassroots work with and for African American communities.

Ankh Maat Wedjau Honor Society
Through the National Council of Black Studies, eligible students will be annually nominated by African American Studies faculty and African American Studies affiliated faculty to the Ankh Maat Wedjau Honor Society. The purpose of this honor society is the study, research, publication and other scholarly activity in the field of Africana Studies among students at academic institutions, and among academic professionals in the field of Africana studies.
